# Working with Pages

Pages are the individual screens that make up an Applet. Each page can contain fields and visual elements used to present information, collect data, and guide users through a workflow.

Use the **Pages** menu in the Applet Editor to create, select, configure, duplicate, copy, and delete pages.

*The Pages menu displays the pages contained in the Applet.*

### Select a page

Select a page from the **Pages** menu to display it in the Main Workspace.

When a page is selected:

* The page appears in the Main Workspace.
* Its name appears in the Top Taskbar.
* Its settings can be displayed in the Properties Panel.
* Fields and visual elements can be added to it from the Toolbox.

Confirm that the correct page is selected before adding or configuring its content.

### Create a page

To create a new blank page:

1. Open **Pages** from the Applet Editor Menu.
2. Select the **page-with-plus icon** beside the Pages heading.
3. Select the new page from the Pages menu.
4. Configure its properties in the Properties Panel.
5. Save the Applet.

*Select the page-with-plus icon to create a new blank page.*

Use descriptive page names that identify the purpose of each screen, such as:

* Main Menu
* Scan Item
* Item Details
* Enter Quantity
* Review
* Confirmation

Clear page names make pages easier to identify when configuring actions, conditions, and navigation.

### Open page properties

To open a page’s properties:

1. Right-click the page in the **Pages** menu.
2. Select **Edit properties**.

The page’s settings are displayed in the Properties Panel.

*Right-click a page and select Edit properties to display its settings.*

### Configure page properties

The page properties include the following settings.

#### Page ID

The **Page ID** identifies the page within the Applet.

#### Name

The **Name** identifies the page in the Applet Editor.

Enter a descriptive name that distinguishes the page from the other pages in the Applet.

#### Home Page

Enable **Home Page** for the page that should serve as the Applet’s home page.

The home page is typically the first page of the Applet and may serve as:

* A main menu.
* An instruction screen.
* A scanning or search screen.
* The first step of a data-entry process.

#### Preview Page

Enable **Preview Page** to use the selected page as the Applet’s preview image.

This preview appears as a small screenshot in the main **Applets** menu, where all Applets are displayed. The home page is commonly used as the preview page, but a different page can be selected if it provides a better representation of the Applet.

*Home Page identifies the Applet’s home page, while Preview Page determines which page appears in the Applet’s preview image.*

### Manage a page

Right-click a page in the Pages menu to display the available page-management commands:

* **Edit properties**
* **Delete this Page**
* **Delete all fields**
* **Duplicate this Page**
* **Copy this Page**

### Duplicate a page

Use **Duplicate this Page** to immediately create a copy of a page within the same Applet.

To duplicate a page:

1. Right-click the page in the Pages menu.
2. Select **Duplicate this Page**.
3. Select the duplicated page.
4. Change its name and configuration as needed.
5. Save the Applet.

Duplicating is useful when two pages require similar layouts or content.

### Copy a page to another Applet

Use **Copy this Page** when you want to reuse a page in another Applet.

1. Right-click the page in the Pages menu.
2. Select **Copy this Page**.
3. Open the Applet in which you want to reuse the page.
4. Paste the copied page using the available page-paste control.

Unlike **Duplicate this Page**, which creates an immediate copy in the current Applet, **Copy this Page** stores the page so it can be pasted into another Applet.

### Delete all fields from a page

Use **Delete all fields** to remove every field from the selected page without deleting the page itself.

1. Right-click the page in the Pages menu.
2. Select **Delete all fields**.
3. Confirm the action if prompted.
4. Save the Applet.

### Delete a page

To delete an entire page:

1. Right-click the page in the Pages menu.
2. Select **Delete this Page**.
3. Confirm the deletion if prompted.
4. Save the Applet.

Deleting the page also removes the fields and other page-specific content it contains.

### Add content to a page

After creating and selecting a page, use the **Toolbox** to add fields and visual elements.

Before configuring fields that depend on data, create the necessary records. Records provide the values and data connections used by fields and Applet operations.

Detailed instructions for adding and configuring content are provided later in:

* **Fields, Properties, and Data Binding**
* **Actions, Events, and Conditions**

### Organize an Applet’s pages

Use separate pages for distinct tasks or stages of a workflow. For example, an Applet might contain:

1. A home or menu page.
2. A page for scanning or entering an identifier.
3. A page that displays retrieved information.
4. A page for entering or updating data.
5. A confirmation page.

Keep each page focused on a clear task. Avoid crowding a complex workflow onto one page, but do not create unnecessary pages for steps that can be completed clearly on the same screen.

### Save page changes

Save the Applet after creating, configuring, duplicating, copying, clearing, or deleting pages.

At this stage, the pages define the basic structure of the Applet. They become functional as records, fields, actions, conditions, and navigation are added.

### Next

Continue to **Fields, Properties, and Data Binding** to add and configure fields and visual elements, then connect fields to the Applet’s records and local variables.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.amltd.com/dc-works/applets/working-with-pages.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
